The future

It came to me that blogging is a great way to save my thoughts and notes on my ICT lectures given by @timbuckteeth.

This stuff is mind blowing, i thought i was switched on with ICT but really i don't know the half of it. There is an incredible amount of knowledge contained in the internet. We are now in an age which uses web 2.0 but there is a possiblity of a Web 3.0 coming out. It will use your previous searching to predict what you want to search for next, a prime example of this is amazon. If you buy a book on amazon it then reccomends what books you will like or says people who bought this book also bought this one...
Companies gather information about the people using their websites to think what people will be wanting next, it's all part of the information society.
What are the ethical points of view about this new web? all things which need to be considered.
Did anyone know that Lord of the rings was filmed in 3D but it was not released. so there is a lot of stuff coming which we dont know about yet! EXCITING i think so ...

gamification - make something into a game so people learn better.

'We are all intelligent enough to know the difference between gaming and relaity' @timbuckteeth

Twitter

Twitter as a library - if you follow a link you can go on to find about more and more things, more than you expected...
Twitter as a street corner - a lot of gossip happens on Twitter.
Twitter as a soapbox - some people use twitter to rant and rave about things.
Twitter as amplification - if you tweet something someone could retweet it who has 10,000 followers so then your tweet is amplified.

Technosocialpredictiveanalysis - wow what a word!
What one word would tweet if you were ill?
what happens in this Technosocialpredictiveanalysis is that all those words are collected up and if huge amounts are tweeting words like that in Plymouth let's say. they plot it on a map and they can see where a flu epidemic is breaking out.

Corning - a day made of glass

What are your thoughts on this?
Is it necessary?
Why if it's happening now has it not happened here yet?

Phones in class?

The majority of the new generation of children have mobile phones. Gone are the days when  we ring peoples house phones for any other reason than to see if they're home. Instead we ring their mobile because its win win. Most keep their mobiles with them at all times, i know i do, worried they'll miss something thats happened on Facebook or Twitter.

So in this world where children are constantly exposed to mobile phones and know the ins and outs of one better than most adults they are not aloud in class? This is because to most teachers they are the 'evil of all evil'. mobiles are now becoming so advanced that there are multiple uses for them in class. IPads are another tool which should be used more! The countless apps available are so beneficial to children.

At an inspirational meeting with @russelprue in september 2011 Russel said something which made me think. It went along the lines of 'some schools take phones off of children, so all i would do if i were one of the children is take a rubbish old phone in and give them that one then i'd still have my phone with me' i thought this was highly comical. The teachers would think they have got a lock on mobile phones in schools when really they have no idea.

Children are undoubtedly going to take mobiles into school so why not embrace it and allow them to use them even at primary school. They all have the intellectual capability to use a mobile phone so teachers should try and further that knowledge because at the end of the day they will need those skills in further life. 'Technology is the future' @timbuckteeth, If children are allowed to use their mobiles in school, they might not feel the need to be sneaky about it. after all we all know if we get told not to do something, we feel the undying urge to do it.
